More On Wikia Search

Dennis Kubes has a nice response on the Lucene mailing list about what Wikia is up to and I think it goes a long way in showing that most of the pundits (TechCrunch) out there just don’t get it.  They are BUILDING a search engine.  It is not complete.  It is an open source project.  It is not a 6 mos. project.

In order for a project to be OPEN, it must put out releases.  In the early stages, these releases are very limited in functionality.  They may only do one or two things well and a whole lot of things average and a fair number of things poorly. How many of you remember Google’s first releases?  How does it compare with today?
